Possible new Boys and Girls Club at Garfield

We have confirmed the date for the Open House at Garfield Elementary
School to discuss a possible new Boys and Girls Club at Garfield.  It will
be on Wednesday, May 11 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.  The District and Boys and
Girls Clubs of Thurston County are doing our best to spread the word to
families, local organizations, businesses, neighborhood associations and
other interested folks. All neighbors are encouraged to attend!

  1. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the proposed location!

  2. The proposed site is on the NW corner of the ball field on the corner of Thomas and Madison Streets. Using one quarter of the field, approx one acre of land, which is currently owned by the OSD.

  3. This is a terrible idea and this project needs to be located elsewhere. It seems if someone was really trying to get the word out then personal invites to the meeting would have gone to the neighboring houses prior to the event. Those fields are used regularly.

  4. It seems clear to me that there is considerable opposition from the neighborhood to this facility being built on the Garfield ball field. Is the neighborhood association ignoring this? Why does a national corporation get to trump our local ownership of our neighborhood? Why has it been accepted by anyone that the Boys and Girls Club's goals are more important than our neighborhood's goals?

We need open space. We need a place for our kid's, and all of us to play. This is a precious resource which we will not get back. The Boy's and Girl's Club is a national business with other options for its development plans.
